Biography
Finnish bass-baritone Kristian Lindroos has established himself in a wide-ranging repertoire spanning Mozart, Verdi and German Romantic opera. Following three seasons as a principal artist at Gothenburg Opera, he is now building an international freelance career, with recent and upcoming engagements at Glyndebourne Festival Opera, the Royal Danish Opera, Teatro Petruzzelli and the Savonlinna Opera Festival. Alongside his current repertoire, he is gradually expanding into the dramatic bass-baritone repertoire that reflects the natural development of his voice.
During his three seasons at Gothenburg Opera, Lindroos appeared in a broad variety of productions, performing roles including Escamillo (Carmen), Papageno (Die Zauberflöte), Caspar (Der Freischütz) and Schaunard (La Bohème). He has also appeared as the King's Herald in Lohengrin at the Savonlinna Opera Festival. His concert repertoire includes Wotan's Leb wohl from Die Walküre.
Recent highlights include his role debut as Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro at the Savonlinna Opera Festival, his debut at Glyndebourne Festival Opera as Angelotti in Tosca, and his debut at the Royal Danish Opera as Schaunard in La Bohème.
Lindroos studied at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and has worked with teachers including Sherman Lowe, Jaakko Ryhänen and Irina Gavrilovici. He has also participated in masterclasses with Jorma Hynninen, Fabio Luisi and Kamal Khan. He is the winner of the Lappeenranta Singing Competition (2016) and the Merikanto Singing Competition (2022).
Alongside his operatic work, Lindroos is a sought-after concert soloist. His artistic interests increasingly centre on the dramatic bass-baritone repertoire, particularly the works of Wagner, Verdi and Boito.
